What I realized, as I was shaving, is that a unique generation of Christians is growing up. We are a generation that are in a more tolerating society, one that is trying hard to be prejudiced no longer. But we are also a society hurt by the hate of the past generation and more conservative Christians. We have two options. We have the ability to be the greatest generation of Christians: a generation of compassionate young Christians who understand the scripture, believe in it, and yet do not promote hate. We can be a generation of Christians that befriends all sinners, and at the same time understand that WE are sinners. But instead of just letting that be okay, we can try to change ourselves and our friends. We can be friends with a homosexual, but still maintain our beliefs, and when the moment comes for us to bring up scripture we can do so without hate. We can do so with compassion and love. We have a second option. We can become the worst generation of Christians. We have the ability to become a generation of Christians that accept all behavior and says the Bible is good in writing but in practice it is not practical. That is worse than not believing. That is an attempt to be lukewarm. No, we must believe in God's Word, but at the same time we must not be like our predecessors. We must not hate or judge. We must offer help, and it must be an offer than only a true friend can make. Just thinking as I was shaving...I dunno...does it make sense? |
