He was hit by a car and bled to death. My mom said there was blood everywhere...I drove out to my parents house with Melinda to bury him. She said she saw the blood all over the road, but I must have missed it, and she didn't want to point it out to me. I'm really going to miss Phantom...I literally broke down and cried which I rarely RARELY ever do...I buried him up on the hill behind our house, that's a little bit into the woods, beneath a tree. He's beneath the tree on the side face away from the house...like he's going into the woods. I'm just really shocked because Phantom was only 4 and he was tough as nails and I thought he'd live longer than me and die taking down a wolf or a cougar or something. Phantom had these very pale eyes, they were almost white, and against his obsidian fur he just reminded me of some ghost, wandering in and out of our woods. I had thought once already that I had lost him. About half a year after we got Phantom, he disappeared for a long time, then one morning, my parents opened my door (while I was sleeping) and let him into my room. I was so happy to see him back again... Yeah, we didn't spend a lot of time together, but that wasn't really the thing...You know how you can have a friend that you see every once in awhile but that everytime you seem them you can just pick up where you left off and it seems like all that time in between didn't even matter. That's how it was with Phantom...he was a great friend. And this was a crappy way for him to go. He should be out hunting rabbits or taking down small dogs. |
