Did you know, that the majority of an animal's life in the wild is spent trying to find food? The rest of the time is spent mating, and somewhere in there, there is sleep. We humans are blessed and cursed with the desire to pursue things a little more demanding than just food and sex. We seek out success, family, love, happiness, God. For some of us, finding food is easy. There are others in the world, who are so "bad" off, that they spend the majority of their time struggling for food and shelter. It's ironic, because we want to help these people, but the moment that you take the lower struggles away, you expose them to the higher struggles. But those are the struggles people want to have. We want to be able to worry about things "deeper" than food and shelter. We want to be able to break our backs over these things because that means that we will eventually be able to obtain them. Unlike animals, we are blessed with the Divine Spark. We are made in God's image, so that even the person who has to struggle for food is not an animal, they are a unique human being who has an opportunity to grow close to God. I'm a pessimist. Sometimes. But I have a belief that life isn't supposed to be enjoyable all the time. That's Paradise, not Earth. On the same hand, I think there is a lot to this world to enjoy. "We're just passing through," as the song says, undermines this place that God created. He did create the World, and He gave it to us. There's a lot of it that is beautiful, and there is a bit of it that's painful. We have to deal with both. That's something that I wish I could learn. |
